LighTec, Inc. wins Great Bay Community College Building Energy Audit Bid

On December 8, 2010 the Community College System of New Hampshire released several Requests for Proposals for energy efficiency improvements for their various campuses across the State.  The RFP improvements ranged from lighing retrofits to building energy audits.  It was LighTec's objective to provide proposals for both the lighting efficiency improvements as well as building energy audits.  LighTec was awarded the RFP for a comprehensive energy audit of Great Bay Community College in Portsmouth, NH as well as two energy efficiency lighting design build contracts for the Manchester Community College located in Manchester, NH as well as the White Mountains Community College in Berlin, NH.

LighTec’s projects are comprehensive, which means that we employ a wide array of cost-effective measures to achieve energy savings. These measures often include the following: high efficiency lighting, high efficiency heating and air conditioning, efficient motors and variable speed drives, energy management systems  and when appropriate; building shell measures such as windows, insulation and air sealing.

Our services include:

• facility energy auditing comparable to an ASHRAE Level II energy audit;
• design development including computer modeling of buildings and their mechanical, electrical, and control systems;
• assistance in researching and arranging financing for energy efficiency projects;
• recommending measures that are eligible for CORE electric utility rebates;
• installation and maintenance of the energy efficient equipment involved;
• recycling and hazardous waste management; and
• measuring, monitoring and verifying the project's energy savings.

In 2010 LighTec became the first New Hampshire-based company contracted by PSNH for their NHSaves@Work/Small Business Energy Solutions program. LighTec’s 2010 annual budget for this program was $250,000 and the energy savings goal was 724,245 kWh. Having met this goal in nine months, LighTec’s contract was renewed for the 2011 program year.

In August 2009, LighTec was awarded a $316,000 Regional Green House Gas Reduction Fund (GHGRF) grant to conduct fuel-blind energy audits and implement energy-efficiency projects in buildings throughout New Hampshire. This fund is administered by the New Hampshire Public Utility Commission. In 2009, Jim Grady was appointed to Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s Small Business Advisory Council. In 2008 LighTec was a recipient of the NH Business Review magazines, Business Excellence Award for Business Services.

    Donald Johnson - Production Manager, Gilchrist Metal Fabricators
  • We are nearing the halfway point of our 2A lighting project. The results thus far are terrific to say the least. I am very pleased with our selection of fixture and lamp, the combination is perfect for our application. The reaction in the factory is also quite favorable as employees are asking 'who's next, can you do me first?'.

    Kevin M Barry - Manager - Plant Facilities, GE - Meters
  • They did a great job in a timely manner. When time for the job was over, they were cleaned up and gone. They worked around my schedule and made the project a success. In a word, GREAT.
    Jim Rozzi - Facilities Manager, Life is Good
  • I was very pleased with the immediate results of the conversion from our old metal halides to the new T8 and T5 bulbs that we had installed in the main shop and the paint department.

    Amanda G. Osmer - General Manager, Grappone Automotive
  • Most importantly, I wanted to commend LighTec’s safety performance while working at Merrimack Station. LighTec had zero accidents and zero near-misses while on-site, November 2007-February 2008. This was accomplished through strict adherence to our safety rules at all times.

    Raymond MacWhinnie - Sr. Engineer, PSNH, Merrimack Generation Station
  • I would like to thank everyone at LighTec, Inc for their successful participation in Merrimack Station’s continual energy efficiency optimization effort. I am pleased with LighTec’s engineering execution that was far more sophisticated than a 1-for 1 lighting upgrade approach. LighTec considers energy savings, financial savings, and area lighting improvement to identify key areas of opportunity, optimal quantity of fixtures, and fixture placement.

    Raymond MacWhinnie - Sr. Engineer, PSNH, Merrimack Generation Station
  • They completed the job in 2 1/2 days! I really thought it would take double that. Great job! I feel the contractor completed a good job. Working with our warehouse personal in and around product to get to each fixture.

    Dan Joyal - Plant Manager, Atrium Medical
  • I want to thank you and all the associates at LighTec who were responsible for an outstanding job on our recent lighting retrofit/replacement project.  Morale and reduction of mistakes on the production floor has noticably improved.  From the financial aspect it has been a home run.  We are saving $4,000 a month in energy savings.  The project has a total payback of les than nine months.

    Chet Mills - CFO, Northstar Steel and Aluminum
  • Before the new lighting was even completely installed we were amazed at the increase of visible light. LighTec listened to our concerns and made any necessary changes we requested.  I would definately call upon them again for any future lighting projects at our company.

    Dan Gurten - Director of Operations, Merriam-Graves
  • Being in the auto body repair industry, it is essential to the quality of our finished product that the Technicians can clearly see every vehicle from every angle. The painters in particular are thrilled with the new system.

    Amanda G. Osmer - General Manager, Grappone Ford
  • Mr. Grady was very knowledgeable and willing to consider other options and share past experience.  The office staff is always willing to help with the littlest of questions (and I had plenty).  The Project Manager was very helpful and knowledgeable and willing to do most anything to help the project along.
